Modern Warfare 2 ranked play has been confirmed by Treyarch Studios, with the team behind previous COD league play modes supporting Infinity Ward
Modern Warfare 2 ranked play has been confirmed in a first for the Infinity Ward developed series of CoD games, coming to the multiplayer game sometime in 2023. Despite the Modern Warfare 2 campaign only recently having been released, fans have already been clamouring for more, with ranked play top of their list of demands.
Following a few leaks that seemed to suggest ranked play would be coming to the Modern Warfare series for the first time, and would be helmed by Treyarch Studios, the studio itself has officially confirmed they are supporting their Infinity Ward colleagues with the popular FPS game mode. Here’s everything we know about Modern Warfare 2 ranked play,
According to an official tweet from Treyarch Studios on November 2, ranked play is coming to Modern Warfare 2, and will be released sometime in 2023. While this isn’t a precise release date yet, it’s nice to know the mode is definitely being added, and this still lines up with an anticipated release with Modern Warfare 2 season 2.
Vanguard’s league play mode – which was also developed by Treyarch- was added to the 2021 game with it’s own season 2, leading us to believe the same could be said about Modern Warfare 2. While little information has been revealed by the studios at this point, we do know that the Modern Warfare 2 ranked play mode will include the usual ranked skill divisions, a top 250 leaderboard, and the chance to earn multiple competitive rewards – all things we’d expect from MW2 ranked play.
As we await the Modern Warfare 2 ranked play release date, Treyarch has confirmed that a Call of Duty League moshpit will launch with season 1 on November 16, likely revealing which game modes we can expect to see in ranked play, too – though what the CDL moshpit will include also hasn’t been revealed yet, with just limited saucy teasers from the studio so far.
Something that suggests we could be getting an entirely new version of ranked play is another leak, this time from leaker VanguardIntel on Twitter, who has apparently seen datamined evidence of the new divisions names. Ranging from bronze up to, weirdly, crimson (why this is above diamond we’ll never know), the ranks also include an iridescent division, presumably at the top, for a total of seven potential ranks.
While that’s all we know about Modern Warfare 2 ranked play so far, there’s certainly enough to be getting on with in the meantime, with a variety of maps and game modes. Make sure you’re ready to drop in with the best Modern Warfare 2 guns and attachments, like the best M4 loadout, if you’re looking to play with one of the most popular weapons.
